Faces of Laikipia

Faces of Laikipia - Travel Photography Project

We grew up watching Richard Attenborough and the BBC and it was nothing short of surreal to see elephants, rhinos, giraffes, zebras and warthogs up close in the beautiful countryside of Laikipia, Kenya. The fact that we were commissioned by the local administration and Non Government Organizations (NGOs) such as the Laikipia Wildlife Forum was more icing on our proverbial (very tasty) cake.

One of our most bittersweet moments was getting a chance to meet the last 3 ever Northern White Rhinos at Ol Pajeta Sanctuary. These majestic animals were literally the last of their kind and being unable to reproduce – walking remnants of an extinct species. We were one of the last film and photography crews allowed in to document them before one of them tragically passed away.

Spending a week out in the dirt and living life as a sort-of-local led to some incredible photographic opportunities. Not only of the incredible wildlife, but also of the locals who made up this true gem of a state that much more beautiful.
